Happy New Year
The children have had lots to talk about this week and have been telling each other all the exciting things that have happened during the Christmas holidays.
This week is Epiphany, when the wise men visited Jesus in the stable, and we have been learning about how children celebrate Epiphany in Spain. In Spain children don't get their main presents until January 6th, the day of Epiphany, and it's the three wise kings, Melchior, Balthasar and Gaspar who bring the presents. On the day before Epiphany in every city, town and village in Spain everyone turns out for a big procession through the streets to see the three wise kings. During the procession the kings throw sweets to the children watching. We acted this out in our classroom with the children dressing up as the kings.
